Yonsei University Club ENACTUS (Academic Adviser, Professor Donghoon Kim of Marketing) has continuously improved in its results in world competition. The club, representing Korea, got to the semifinals in late October in Beijing in the ENACTUS World Cup competition. Sixteen of 34 universities were selected for the World Cup competition. Later, in mid-November, the club won the “Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE) Programme” award and received a fund for business development of 10,000 Singapore Dollars (SGD).

Yonsei University first introduced ENACTUS to Korea in 2004. The organization was founded in America in  1975 as SIFE, and is a nonprofit organization operating in 36 countries, 1,600 universities, and has over 66,000 active university students as members. Through various businesses, ENACTUS clubs conduct projects helping the socially underprivileged to be financially independent. In Korea, ENACTUS has the ongoing “Eden” and “Dong-ne-ppang-ne” projects.

The Yonsei University ENACTUS team has had outstanding results since 2006. Club ENACTUS President Soong Yoon Gi said, “I did feel a realistic difference with the other countries. However, I saw Korea’s capabilities and potential and was able to have confidence in the path we chose. Since I know that many seniors and colleagues have worked hard to get this far, it’s a great honor to be a representative.”

During the Singapore YSE Competition, hosted in November by the Singapore International Foundation, the ENACTUS team placed first with “Eden Green Urban Project.” This competition was sponsored by professional business consulting firms including Ashoka, McKinsey & Company, and INSEAD.

The judges who examined project Eden found that in contrast to last April, the ENACTUS team was the most improved and its business model was very creative. The ENACTUS team members who participated in the competition with support from the Yonsei University School of Business were happy that they won, but even prouder of the valuable experience gained from the time and effort they put in over the course of almost a full year. Participating ENACTUS members, all business majors, were Sang-Soo Kim (entering class of 2010), Young-Joo Oh (entering class of 2011), and Ei-Yeon Hong (entering class of 2011). They predicted that for Club ENACTUS and the project Eden team, the lessons learned in exchanges with international teams and the confidence gained in their business model would become the basis for further developments in the club’s projects and future success.
