Eighty-three students from the YSB’s various MBA programs visited China and Japan this winter as part of the school’s ongoing efforts to expose its students to the different business environments around the world. Participating in this winter’s program were 45 students from the EMBA (Executive MBA) program and 38 students from the CMBA (Corporate MBA), FMBA (Finance MBA), and GMBA (Global MBA) programs.

Participants in the EMBA program went on a field trip in January to the China Europe International Business School at Shanghai. The “Doing Business in China” program was led by Professor Jooyoung Kwak. It consisted of three lectures, a company visit to COSMAX, and a panel discussion. On the first day, Professor Tae-yeol Kim of CEIBS lectured on doing business in China. On the second day, Dong Sik Hyun, director of Korea Investment Holdings’ Shanghai office, discussed current economic conditions in China and investment opportunities there. Later that day students visited COSMAX, a leading R&D and OEM company, to hear from Korean business executives working in China. On the last day of the field trip, Professor Daniel Chng of CEIBS summarized the three lectures with a presentation on the business strategies of foreign companies in China.

From January 29 to February 2, students in the CMBA, FMBA, and GMBA programs participated in a GET(Global Experience Trip) program at the business school of Keio University in Japan. The program was led by Professor Jaehoon Hahn. Professors Hikaru Yamamoto and Naoki Watanabe of the Keio business school lectured on the “Hidden Champions of Japan,” explaining a Japanese business environment in which many small businesses are highly competitive. Students also visited four companies: Nagano Seiko, Stanley Electric, Recruit Holdings, and Shibuya Paak.
