Global  MBA students of Yonsei Business School participated over the spring as volunteers with BabPer, which serves free meals, as part of the school’s program to instill a sense of servant leadership and social responsibility in its students.

 The effort and participation of 28 Global MBA students was recognized in June at a ceremony also attended by Professor Subin Im, associate dean for the MBA program, and Professor Soonhong Min, director of the Global MBA program. Professor Im said, “We started the voluntary service program to train ethical leaders with a sense of social responsibility. I thank the students who participated.” Afterward he gave certificates to each student, thanking them for their participation.

  In the course of the program, Koreans who came for the free meals found the presence of foreign students quite strange, sometimes trying to start a conversation with them. Victor Svensson said, “I often participated in voluntary services back in USA, and I feel proud that I could help people in trouble. I felt a cultural difference that in Korea ‘a meal’ not only contains the meaning of a meal but also mental satisfaction.”

 He also laughed in observing that talking to Ajummas, middle-aged Korean women, who also participated in the voluntary service was a new experience. Another student, Farah Al Jaradat, said, “Doing voluntary service makes me feel good” as she recalled her voluntary service in an orphanage in Jordan. She added, “I hope all the Global MBA students get the chance to participate in voluntary service programs.”
