Kiwon Sung, Hyeonah Koo, Young Ju Moon, and Songhwa Chae—Team C-Wave from the Yonsei Graduate School of Business Corporate MBA program—won the Excellence Award in December for their presentation in the 2020 MBA Case Competition.
The competition has been co-hosted since 2009 by the Yonsei University Graduate School of Business and the Money Today Network (MTN). This year's theme was "Global Strategy After COVID-19" and an "Eco-Friendly Trend Response Strategy" sought by the CJ Group.
The C-Wave team proposed a business strategy direction for CJ ENM after COVID-19. The team suggested that CJ ENM build a platform capitalizing on its extensive K-POP media content and develop it into a platform targeted at becoming the leader in the consumption of K-POP content.
The award ceremony was held December 17 at Yongjae Hall in the Business Building before a sparse crowd that observed social distancing because of the pandemic.
Kiwon Sung, the team leader, called the competition “a valuable opportunity to use both the knowledge learned at school and field experience. I would like to participate in next year's competition and challenge for the Minister's Award.” The Minister’s Award is the top award in the annual competition.
Sung described the competition as a new and fun experience that initially was complicated by having to prepare online because of COVID-19. Nevertheless, he said, "This was a valuable experience that helped me in tracking two years of my CMBA life. I hope that the Corona situation will improve next year and more senior MBA participants will participate in and gain meaningful experience from this competition.”
The team members agreed that learning to collaborate with others was the most important lesson learned. Despite the different backgrounds, they were able to focus on a common goal and pursue it by drawing on each other’s skills and experience.
